Codexis, Inc.
Codexis significantly expanded its biocatalysis product range through acquisitions of Juelich Fine Chemicals and BioCatalytics, Inc. in 2006 and 2007. In the ensuing years Codexis has shifted focus away from the enzymes for chemical synthesis business, directing the majority of its efforts toward biofuels and bioindsutrial applications including enzyme-assisted carbon capture technology. The biocatalysis activities at Codexis are focused on the production of chiral intermediates and bulk actives for the pharmaceutical industry, partnering with manufacturers in India. A notable example is the development of a biocatalytic process together with scientists at Merck for the production of sitagliptin, the active ingredient in the drug Januvia produced by Merck. Codexis now owns the patent estate in “shuffling” for applications in enzyme improvement originally developed by Maxygen.
While Coxdexis maintains an impressive in-house libnrary covering a large range of enzymes and reaction classes, there has been a dramatic reduction in the number of enzyme products and screen sets offered for sale.
