How The Renewable Energy Grant Extension Was Won

by David on December 29, 2010

As most everyone knows, the extension of the Bush Tax Cuts by the Congress included a huge list of earmarks for special interests. I ran across the text of the letter, signed by 17 senators led by Senator Feinstein, to Senators Reid and Baucus in support of extending the grant program for renewable energy projects. Without passing judgment one way or another on this particular addition to the Tax Cut Bill, I simply find this enlightening, showing how the Congress actually goes about doing the People’s Business.

I love the way the letter presents the request for the extra funds: “We are writing to express that we will have difficulty supporting tax legislation currently being drafted for Senate consideration that fails to include an extension of the Treasury Grant Program (TGP).”

This link will take you to Senator Feinstein’s web site where the full text of the letter is available. I recommend that you take a look just to see how these things get done.
